Microsoft Viva – Insights

Viva Topics helps to manage and surface knowledge and expertise across organisation. Viva Topics builds on Microsoft 365 and applies AI to identify knowledge and experts from across the organisation and categorise them into shared topics. AI not only organises knowledge into topics, it also automatically creates topic pages for each topic. Subject matter experts can then refine topics through topic pages and AI learns from their input.

Topic highlights and cards

Topic highlights cards are currently available in Microsoft Search results:

and on SharePoint Online pages:

Topics highlights and cards are also coming to Outlook, Teams, Yammer, and the Office apps.

When users come across an unfamiliar topic or acronym, they can just hover the topic name, and a topic card gives them a summary of what they need to know about this topic.

The topic card provides a summary of people and resources linked to the topic, a short description and a list of alternative topic names. From the Topic Card, users can access the Topic Page by clicking on “View details” link.

Topic Pages

The topic page provides more information, including definitions, relevant people, and resources from across Microsoft 365 and external sources if configured.

All information on Topic pages is security trimmed. People see only the topics and resources they have access to.

Topic Centre

All topic pages are stored within the Topic Center. This is where topic administrators can manage Topics – review and confirm suggested topics, edit and publish topic pages.

Topics Administration

Topics Experiences settings can be accessed from the Org settings menu in Microsoft 365 admin center.

Here we can decide on topic sources – we can choose all sites or specific SharePoint sites to make sure only relevant content sources are included. We can also exclude certain topics. We can decide who can see the topics and topic answers – this option is great for gradual rollout of Topics to the pilot group or as a proof of concept. We can manage who can create and edit topics. And finally we also have some further option to update topic centre configuration.

Microsoft is also working on APIs to allow us to build connectors and integrations with other systems.
