Microsoft Viva – Learning

This is the second blog in my series of blogs about Viva and individual Viva modules. This blog focuses on Viva Learning.

Viva Learning is one of Microsoft Viva modules focused on skills and workplace learning.

Viva Learning brings all your learning in one place, combining content with powerful social features and AI-powered recommendations to make learning a natural part of your day.

Viva Learning can be added as a Tab to Teams channel to show the list of courses for the team member to see. Anyone in the team can access the list. Team members can also add additional resources by selecting “Add new”.

It’s a great scenario to facilitate onboarding to a team or a new project. The learning tab can be prepopulated with content authored by your organisation and specific to a team, project or task or with content form Microsoft or supported 3rd party providers.

Clicking on a course opens the course page with more details about the course including how long it is, who the author is and a description of what the course is.

Viva Learning includes a Recommend function. Anybody can navigate to a specific learning resource and recommend learning to colleagues. In the Viva Learning App, the recommender can track the progress of all assigned learning.

Switching to the Microsoft Admin centre, let’s look at the configuration of the learning sources.

You can see here LinkedIn Learning, Microsoft Learn, Microsoft 365 trainings are all learning sources that are switched on by default. All Viva Learning users have access to a set of the top 125 LinkedIn Learning courses as well as the full library of Microsoft Learn and Microsoft 365 trainings.

The access to full LinkedIn learning library and other learning platforms provider subscription is required.

In addition to adding learning content providers, learning content can be hosted locally, in SharePoint. This is a great way of adding learning content produced by your organisation to Viva Learning.

Microsoft is also working on APIs to allow us to build connectors and bring even more learning content to Viva.

To summarise, Viva Learning extends the existing investment into learning by connecting different learning platforms together and by making them available in a more modern experience in the flow of work in Microsoft Teams.
