As with many pioneers, maintaining a competitive edge requires persistence, and the ruthless desire to improve.  risual’s client, a facilities consultancy organisation has this desire and are constantly looking for opportunities to improve the services they deliver to clients. Working with risual, the client desired to maximise the impact of the data it captures to help save costs, minimise waste, and adapt to the needs of a distributed workforce. 

This client provisions many Internets of Things (IoT) sensors in office spaces globally. Data captured from these sensors was processed  and presented by a third-party application, which the client were looking to replace. The client also needed to introduce new features that improve data capture, processing, storage, and visualisation. Not only did they want to add efficiency and scalability to the application, but they also wanted the ability to provide real-time reports and data to clients through a client facing portal.  

risual delivered two workstreams to replace the legacy applicators; the first handling data ingestion, processing and storage; the second delivering reports and analytics, providing the information required for sensory technology.  

Initially, risual used IoT Hub to collect information, however legacy devices meant an additional application needed developing to capture and store data into an advanced cloud database. Azure services and Power BI provided risual’s client with a flexible and future proof solution.  

The clients’ benefits following the project are as follows: 

  • The client is now able to use its own sensory data analysis tool, avoiding third party involvement. 
  •  The organisation can reduce its costs due to having its own services and can benefit from further features that weren’t available from the former provider.   
  • Real time data reports can be directly accessed with the new tools and presented to clients, improving the quality of the client’s services.  
  • The information stored has no speed or memory issues, as a cloud environment is used.  
  • Data can be accessed quickly and accurately for clients to understand. The services also include automation and user-friendly features, making the services easy to use and is likely to improve employee satisfaction.
