Faithful, dependable, trustworthy – are you?

Employers scramble to find workers who are faithful and dependable. People long for politicians who faithfully carry out their campaign promises. Newly weds promise to be faithful till death (and yet, unfortunately, so few truly are). Without faithfulness your talents and influence are diluted. How many politicians have you seen hauled through the press because of extravagant expenses claims, or social in-digressions? The world needs people who are faithful. Faithfulness attracts people.

Yellowstone Park has over 300 natural geysers, but one stands above the others. Its not the largest, nor do its waters reach the greatest height, but it is by far the most popular, due to one thing – it’s dependability. According to a precise schedule it shoots water high into the air, you can almost set your watch by it – that is why it is called Old Faithful.

Faithfulness is about making 100% effort 100% of the time. Statistics once showed that if 99% perfection was good enough then over 100,000 tax returns would be processed incorrectly each year, 22,000 pay-cheques would go to the wrong accounts each month, 12 babies a day would be given to the wrong parents, 18,000 letters and parcels would be go astray each day, 291 pacemaker operations would be performed incorrectly, and 20,000 incorrect prescriptions each year would be written. Pretty shocking statistics, especially if you are the one affected.

Dependability must be grown. Being faithful with the little things is how dependability begins, grows and matures. In the bible Jesus says “Anyone who can be trusted in little matters can also be trusted in important matters, but anyone who is dishonest in little matters will be dishonest in important matters” A little harsh you may think, but if you want to succeed on the job, come to work on time, stick with the job until it’s finished, when you see something that needs doing, do it – even if it’s not in your job description. Give an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay, take your designated lunch-break, report truthfully, support the team and uphold the company’s reputation.

In other words be faithful on the job. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” That’s faithfulness, trustworthiness and dependability!
