Microsoft introduced Microsoft Viva, the first platform for professional development maintaining a good emotional state for employees, which contains tools for ensuring engagement, training and opportunities for sharing knowledge in the work process. Viva delivers a whole new experience by integrating productivity and collaboration tools in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams.

With continuous changes in the work environment, there is a growing demand for solutions that support the corporate culture allowing a convenient search of the knowledge base and on-the-job training. There are many disparate services and tools on the market, but their potential is not effectively used by employees of companies that have invested in them.

“We took part in the world’s largest experiment in remote work, which had a huge impact on employees. Every organisation will need a unified approach to interacting with staff, from hiring to continuous learning and growth. Viva brings together everything an employee needs to succeed from day one into a single solution right in Teams.”

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft.

With Teams and Microsoft 365, Microsoft Viva brings together tools to create an effective work environment across four metrics:

  1. engagement
  2. emotional enhancement
  3. learning
  4. knowledge sharing

Microsoft Viva consists of several modules:

Viva Connections is a personalised digital workplace that lets an employee carry out internal communications and access the company’s resources, such as a collection of internal policies, news, etc., and corporate communities. This will be available as part of a custom app in Microsoft Teams.

Viva Insights will help employees plan time more competently, dividing it into periods for work that requires concentration, training and breaks, which will reduce the risk of burnout. Managers will receive recommendations for building a healthy and prosperous team, and managers will receive a tool to create effective organisational models and track trends. The process will improve team cohesion and, for example, more effectively plan office spaces for hybrid work. Clients will also be able to use data from third-party services such as Zoom, Workday and SAP SuccessFactors.

Viva Learning makes learning and professional development opportunities more open and accessible in the course of work. It brings together all the training resources available to the company in one place, including content from Microsoft Learn, courses from third-party providers including Skillsoft, Coursera, Pluralsight, and edX, and the organisation’s content library.

Viva Topics is a tool that allows conveniently finding the necessary information and contacting experts throughout the company. The solution uses artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically organise company-wide content and expertise into categories such as “projects,” “products,” “processes,” and “customers.” Viva Topics automatically creates topic cards when employees work in applications such as M365 and Teams, which combine information about documents, videos and related experts. Integrating data from various third-party services are also possible, such as ServiceNow and Salesforce.

“Microsoft Viva is a revolutionary platform for exchanging experiences between employees, representing a new category of enterprise software. It is fully focused on the daily needs of employees. Viva will allow companies to integrate their disparate work tools and embed them directly into their workflow.”

Josh Bersin, research analyst and expert in the field of technologies for the exchange of experience between employees.

To ensure privacy and security, Microsoft Viva uses de-identification. This means that personal data is visible only to the employee, and for managers and supervisors. Information is generated from generalised and anonymised data.
