Issue logging and Feature Management within D365 Finance & D365 Supply Chain

Periodically users of dynamics 365 can come across bugs or shortcomings in the system compared to what was promised earlier by Microsoft when purchasing licenses for D365 Finance and D365 Supply Chain. These users have a way to log these issues for Microsoft using the LCS (life cycle services is a tool used for the deployment of D365 environments and project collaboration) it usually user can create an issue and assigning to Microsoft.

Based on the SLA agreed with Microsoft, Microsoft will fix the issue in what is generally known as hot fixes. This where Microsoft agrees the identified issue is not fit to be present in the system and rolls out a platform update with a fix (hotfix) for this issue. Users can read more about the said issue under the Issue Search section in LCS by typing in a hotfix KB number (Knowledge base number) or just searching using key words in the search bar.

Sometimes Microsoft will not fix the issue immediately because it may have been identified as not a bug (working as intended) or it may not be that serious an issue to warrant a hotfix in a platform update roll out. Sometimes Microsoft may treat issues logged against Microsoft which is later identified as working as intended as nice to haves for it’s user base and prepares fixes for such issues but do not roll it out as hotfix but prepares it a new feature for future releases. Same is done for bugs that Microsoft does not deem too serious for hotfixes.

There is a section in D365 Finance and D365 Supply Chain under System Administration> Workspaces> Feature Management with all the new features available for D365 Finance and Supply Chain. Some of the features available here could be previews (available only to select Microsoft partners or customers or regions) and not yet available to the wider community, other features could be less serious bugs and others could be just nice to haves provided by Microsoft after listening to the community.

On the Feature Management screen above, users can see all the new features just added and all existing un-enabled features in the system. Here users can also schedule what features they want to activate and when.

Features on the feature management screen are not mandatory, users can choose to stick to what they are used to and not try any of the new stuff or try the new additions.
