What is PaaS? How will I benefit?

“Platform as a service (PaaS) is a complete development and deployment environment in the cloud, with resources that enable you to deliver everything from simple cloud-based apps to sophisticated, cloud-enabled enterprise applications. You purchase the resources you need from a cloud service provider on a pay-as-you-go basis and access them over a secure Internet connection.” – Microsoft Azure

If you’re looking at moving to the cloud, PaaS may be the right direction for you. Like IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) you get your networking, storage, servers and virtualisation managed but also operating system, middleware and your runtime leaving you with only data and applications to manage – freeing up your time and giving you that extra support.

The service cost of PaaS is generally significantly lower than the IaaS or On-Premise alternative – PaaS allows you to avoid those extra costs, and extra management time. With the reduced amount management time you will also have a lower TCO. Not only this, to further support the price, PaaS is offered on a pay-per-use cost model with a CSP (Cloud Solution Provider).

PaaS forms a significant part of the digital transformation of a traditional datacentre, if you’re looking to find out any more information or need a bit more guidance please feel free to get in touch with our specialists by contacting enquiries@risual.com or 0300 303 2044.
