There was always a restriction on Team sites for the navigation to reside on the left hand side. This made using these types of sites at a slight disadvantage over Communication sites, which had the navigation across the top which made better use of the usable space for content on a site. With a release of a new feature it is possible to change the location of the navigation now.
How to change the navigation to horizontal for a Team site
- Access the team site from a browser.
- Click the SharePoint Cog and select Change the look.
- Select the Navigation option.
- Select Horizontal in the navigation window on the right which will transport the menu from the default left hand side to the top.
- Click Save to apply the change.

Once the navigation has changed to Horizontal, the menu style can also be altered just like Communication sites. From the default cascading style to the use of a mega menu. Also, if preferred you can remove the navigation completely by slide the Site navigation visibility control slider to Off.
