Essex County Fire and Rescue Service Cloud Application Analysis
In line with the UK Government’s cloud-first agenda, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was keen to migrate as much of its server and application infrastructure to Microsoft Azure with the aim of reducing costs and simplifying disaster recovery processes.
Vision and scoping
To ensure it was getting the most from their migration to the cloud, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service engaged early with risual for a vision and scoping engagement around the full end user Computing transformation, to understand the benefits of not only Azure, but also moving key productivity workloads to Office 365.
“We knew that risual were our strategic partner of choice for these kinds of discussions, we wanted a trusted third party to advise on how to get the most of what we were investing in.”

• Building the foundations – Essex County Fire and Rescue Service now has a definitive application catalogue, something that was previously missing. The Power BI dashboard and Digital Application Passports allow further analysis and a clear view of the estate.
• Control and insight – Essex County Fire and Rescue Service can see the cost of providing application services and identify clearly what everything is doing.
• Consolidation of SQL database servers – an opportunity to reduce licensing costs, one SQL database server to run multiple applications. Exploitation of PAAS to reduce TCO of test and development environments.
• Efficiency – Essex County Fire and Rescue Service can now be more efficient when using test/ dev environment, as it no longer needs to run 24×7. It is now able to build a more secure and well-run environment rather than maintaining it.
