Apprenticeship End Point Assessments (EPA)

Every Apprenticeship includes an End Point Assessment (EPA), assessed by an independent End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO). The apprentice will take their EPA at the end of their programme where they will demonstrate they are competent in the role that they have developed in.

The EPA consists of 2 discrete assessment methods:

Assessment method 1: Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio

Assessment method 2: Project report with questioning

(Both graded fail, pass, merit or distinction)

Overall Grade:

Pass, Merit, Distinction or Fail

Assessment method 1: Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio

Apprentices must submit –

At least one piece of evidence relating to each knowledge, skill and behaviour mapped to AM1, It is expected that there will be a minimum of 5 pieces and a maximum of 10 pieces of evidence

Duration – 60 minutes, minimum 10 questions

Assessment method 2: Project report with questioning

Assessment method 2 component 2: Questioning

The independent assessor must devise a minimum of 5 questions generated by themselves from their review of the project evidence.

Duration – 30 minutes

Assessment method 2 component 1: Project Report

Apprentices must submit –

The project report has a maximum word limit of 1,500.

The project may be based on any of the following:

A specific problem

A recurring issue

An idea/opportunity

Providing a service

As a minimum all project reports must include:

An introduction

The scope of the project (including key performance indicators)

How the outcomes were achieved

Research and findings

Project outcomes

Conclusions and potential areas for improvement
