The client completed the rollout of Office 365 and was seeking to implement a SharePoint Modern based solution that integrates with Office 365 as a launchpad for workspace interactions. The solution should seek to maximise engagement and personalised communications as well as boost collaborative working. The objective of this project was to produce a Digital Workspace prototype initially focused on students but where content delivery is role-based and could provide a different selection of features for staff, with the longer-term goal to replace the existing staff intranet.

The prototype should provide a personalised workspace for students with access to their key personal functionality such as email, daily timetable, assignments due and unit data.

During a short project risual built a Digital Workspace prototype using SharePoint and Viva Connections Dashboard. Data from various systems outside Microsoft 365 was brough into the solution to provide an information-rich launchpad. Examples of the functionality included in the prototype were showing currently opened support tickets, emails and assigned tasks.

The prototype delivered by risual provided a showcase for how the latest Microsoft technology can integrate information from dispersed systems into one Digital Workspace, personalised for the end-user. The prototype leveraged the integrations available with Microsoft 365/Azure and capitalised on the benefits the technology offers. They also provided examples of potential future apps and functions that could be used by Bournemouth University to meet their long-term goals.
