A non-departmental public body improving its security posture

Refining the vision

A non-departmental public body based in the UK is responsible for aspects of procurement for the UK Ministry of Defense. The client had a custom-written website and SQL analysis infrastructure which was developed internally and is hosted in a dedicated hosting environment.

• The client wished to move the solution to Azure and re-architect the website and data architecture to utilise PaaS resources.
• The website was originally written in C#. The software was re-architected to run as Azure Web Apps and Azure Functions.
• The SQL estate was re-architected to run as Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse and PowerBI.
• The environment has been secured using App Gateway v2, WAF, Purview and Defender.

Optimising security

The existing environment used legacy technology including Virtual Machines along with physical networking and firewalls. The new integrated solution makes best use of Azure PaaS services to increase flexibility and minimise cost. Following the work that has been completed, the client saw a series of business benefits and additional value including:
