You will have read in In Progress recently that Charlotte and I have been on a Mental Health First Aid course , run by Mental Health England. It was a really informative and interesting two day course and has given us lots of ideas to bring into risual in the coming months.

One thing that struck a chord with me was a statement from their CEO  Simon Blake OBE

“We all have mental health and , just like our physical health, it needs looking after “

With that in mind, I thought I’d tell you about my experience. In the past five years, I’ve had a couple of episodes where my mental health was very poor and I had to ask for help to get through it, even though it took me a while to recognise and accept that I couldn’t get better on my own.

The reason I wanted to share this with you is to show that it can happen to anyone, at any time and that it is something that you can recover from even if at the time you don’t think you will. I’m not ashamed or embarrassed that I’ve gone through this, it’s part of who I am ; it’s made me aware of changes I can make to safeguard it happening again, although I’m fully aware it could.

If any of you feel that you are experiencing poor mental health for any reason , I would urge you to talk to someone.

If I can be that someone,  give me a call.
