I’ve recently been on site at a customer implementing a multi-tier SharePoint 2016 on premises solution. When I added the servers to the farm came across the below issue with upgrade status in Central Admin.

Also when review database status in Central Administration. The SharePoint_AdminContent_<GUID> database has the following status:

“Database is in compatibility range and upgrade is recommended”.

This is caused by some components in the database have not have been set to the expected version when the SharePoint 2016 Configuration Wizard created the Central Administration AdminContent database.

Upgrade the Admin Content database. Open SharePoint Management Shell as Administrator

Run the following:

Get-SPWebApplication <Central Administration URL> | Get-SPContentDatabase | Upgrade-SPContentDatabase

Run the SharePoint 2016 Products Configuration Wizard from the command line on all affected servers in the farm:

PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources
