QSA Apprenticeship Awards 2019

On Wednesday 13th March the Quality Skills Alliance (QSA) hosted their apprenticeship awards at Cardiff and Vale College. The QSA awards ceremony is an annual event which celebrates and recognises the most outstanding apprentices in the region. The ceremony focusses on celebrating excellence, high achievement and career progression.

We are proud to announce that Geraint Peach won the IT Apprentice of the Year 2019 Award in a competitive sector! Geraint is an IT Engineer at Capital Law who excelled in both the classroom and his workplace, showing dedication and commitment to his studies throughout the apprenticeship.

Geraint’s employer, Rhys Davies (Head of IT at Capital Law) spoke very highly of Geraint’s impact on the business;

“Geraint’s impact on the business has been substantial. As a well-respected and well-known Law firm, we pride ourselves on the service we deliver to our clients. Looking internally, we also pride ourselves on the service we provide to our staff, with IT at the forefront in this regard. Geraint is the 1st point of contact for all staff who experience IT issues, and his confident, personable and his inquisitive nature means he will not rest until he has resolved a user’s query to their satisfaction. He is also comfortable dealing with the whole range of staff, all the way up to exec level.”

In addition to Geraint excelling in his apprenticeship and showing commitment to developing his skills, Rhys also highlighted the cost savings to the business that Geraint has directly supported;

“He has acquired a high level of IT knowledge in a corporate environment and has introduced substantial efficiency savings in certain areas of the business by automating tasks that were previously done manually. He has also built several applications for the business, examples of which would be our asset management and purchase order systems. This has resulted in cost savings for the company in that we have not needed to procure these systems from elsewhere. The firm has taken great pleasure in seeing Geraint progress, and we feel that he is an excellent example of the value that the apprenticeship scheme can bring to businesses and the wider economy.”

Geraint completed his L3 IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Professional Apprenticeship through the risual Education and Cardiff and Vale College Partnership. He received workplace support from an Industry Qualified Assessor alongside attendance at the college one day per week to complete the academic element of his programme with a Specialist Tutor. Daniel Impey (risual Education Assessor) worked closely with Geraint to help develop him in his career. Daniel said;

“Geraint was a pleasure to work with and he grasped the work-based learning methods very quickly. Geraint provided excellent work-based evidence through the medium of reflective accounts and product evidence ensuring data protection and customer confidentiality at all times. Geraint met all his SMART targets every session and ensured his work was ready to be assessed via the e-portfolio. It was very clear that Geraint was well liked by his colleagues and I often received impromptu feedback from them commenting on how great Geraint is.”

We are very proud to showcase Geraint’s achievement, and can’t wait to watch him develop further in his career.
