Microsoft have announced the Hybrid Organisation Configuration Transfer V2 update to the Hybrid Configuration Wizard tool. This gives an Exchange Hybrid organisation the ability to duplicate the following Exchange 2010/2013/2016 configuration in Exchange Online:

  • Active Sync Mailbox Policy
  • Mobile Device Mailbox Policy
  • OWA Mailbox Policy
  • Retention Policy
  • Retention Policy Tag
  • Active Sync Device Access Rule
  • Active Sync Organization Settings
  • Address List
  • DLP Policy
  • Malware Filter Policy
  • Organization Config
  • Policy Tip Config

For most organisations that require a like-for-like experience, this saves time and effort by not having to manually enter the information either via Exchange Control Panel or by Exchange Online PowerShell cmdlets.

Also, should you make changes to the on-premises Exchange 2010/2013/2016 organisation, you can re-run the Hybrid Configuration Wizard to update the configuration in Exchange Online. If you have duplicate objects, it allows you the ability to either update the objects in Exchange Online or to keep them as is. It also provides a script in the log folder with all the required previous settings so you can roll-back the changes.

To use the Hybrid Organisation Configuration Transfer V2, ensure your Exchange 2010/2013/2016 is using the most recent or immediate previous release of Exchange Cumulative Update or Update Rollup. You can find a list of Exchange Server build numbers and release dates here.
