Back in 2017 at the Microsoft Build event the user behaviour analytics tools were announced. Since then many new features and capabilities have been added to its current stage.

How can these tools be tried out?

Users, Sessions, Events and other behaviour analytics tools are a part of the Application Insights resource in the Azure Portal.

What’s new since the release?

There is lots of new features to talk about! The first being Users, Sessions and Events have been re-built to be more responsive and provide better loading times as well as additional insights automatically.

Six major new tools and integrations including User Flows, Funnels, Impact, user session timelines, Visual Studio App Centre integration and Cohorts.

  • User Flows – This provides a quick analysis into how users navigate between pages and features of customers apps so that they can see where users start and stop their journeys as well as what they do in-between.
  • Funnels – This lets customers track conversion rates in detail for key journeys in the web apps. It is possible to analyse the users that completed and dropped off at each step to help improve the conversion rates.
  • Impact – The impact tool analyses’ the page load times and other metrics/conversion rates to actions on corresponding pages. This helps the customer development teams to invest in performance improvements via a data-driven method.
  • User and session timelines – This helps context user actions, exceptions and other logs showing what users were doing at the time the logs were sent.
  • Cohorts – These let users define groups of users, sessions, events or operations so they can be analysed more easily in the other behaviour analytics tools.
  • Visual Studio App Centre Integration – With this tool a copy of the App Centre telemetry can be sent via a mobile device.
