Remote Apps not listed to RD Web Access, server error and Event ID 11

Hi All,

I was recently having a number of issues with  Remote Desktop Web access in a new RDS farm.

  • Slow response when trying to log in and out
  • No items in the Remote Apps list even though access had been granted

Sometimes web access would hang until it timed out and I would recieve the following error:

Server Error in ‘/RDWeb/Pages’ Application. 

An asynchronous operation exceeded the page timeout. 

Event ID 11 was frequently being logged in the event log on the RD web access server:

RD Web Access was unable to contact {0}, which is the server that is specified as running the RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Management service. Ensure that the name of the server that is specified as running the RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Management service is entered correctly, and that the server is running and available on the network. Error code: {1}.

In my case, the issue was caused by TCP 5504 being blocked from the web Access server to the connection broker server, once this was fixed all of the above issues went away. This article from Microsoft details all of the network requirements for RDS.
