A customer had an issue recently opening SQL Configuration manager on a Server, whenever they launch Configuration Manager they received “Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 and later servers with SQL Server Configuration Manager.”

To resolve we had to do the following:

  • Open Command Prompt
  • Run mofcomp “%programfiles(x86)%Microsoft SQL ServernumberSharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof”
