We working on a case for one of our customers recently, they were receiving multiple alerts from the Lync front end servers complaining about connectivity issues to their Edge Servers.
- No connectivity with any of Web Conferencing Edge Servers. External Lync clients cannot use Web Conferencing modality
- Connection attempts to the following services have failed. Another attempt will be made for each service every 10 minutes.
When we checked the Lync event log on the Edge servers, we could see the following error flooding the events “A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800B0109)”
It turned out that someone had removed the Certificate chain for the certificate used for Lync.
To resolve we reimported the Certificate Chain and restarted the “Lync Edge Web Conferencing”
After this all the alerts from the Front End and Edge servers disappeared and all was working J
