Can’t Access the Internet With Automatically Detect Setting Enabled in Internet Explorer

We came across a bizarre issue recently where a user had their proxy set to “automatically detect settings” and they were unable to access in the internet at all. If the user effected moved machine she could access the internet fine with auto detect enabled. Also if the user pointed her machine directly to the proxy she had no issues.

I double checked the proxy just to make sure it wasn’t blocking anything and all traffic was flowing through fine.

The resolution in the end was to reset her IE.

  1. Open internet explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced
  2. Then press reset
  3. Close all IE windows and launch IE again  The user was then able to browse the Net again with auto-detect enabled
