Insider Preview New Windows Container Image!

New Windows container image now available to download!

Microsoft have just released their latest Windows Container image to users who are enrolled in the Insider build. This container image was first announced at Microsoft Build 2018. Microsoft have announced that their reasoning for making another container image is that customers wanted to move their legacy applications into containers but were having difficulty with a few of them. In some cases due to missing components for example proofing support which is not included in Windows Server Core addition.

How can customers get it?

If you are running a container host on the Insiders build 17704 you can get this update by running the following command:

docker pull mcr.microsoft.com/windows-insider:10.0.17704.1000

However to simply get the latest container image you can run the following command:

docker pull mcr.microsoft.com/windows-insider:latest

Microsoft do recommend to run the same build version for both the host and container to avoid compatibility issues.
