Windows Server 2016 MP Update Version 10.0.21.0

Windows Server 2016 MP has been updated to version 10.0.21.0!

As of mid June the latest version of Windows Server 2016 MP was released and can be downloaded here. The update included several bug fixes and also includes:

  • Time sync monitoring – Microsoft have made a new monitor for Time Accuracy, Microsoft have admitted that the original monitor was quite noisy. This will automatically be set to ‘disabled’ however of course can be enabled at any time, this monitor has a strict threshold of 1ms. Microsoft have made the default threshold 60,000 milliseconds (which converts to 60 seconds). This threshold can however be altered to suit your environment.
  • Event Collection Rules – This MP is set to disable all event collection rules by default as per Microsoft’s recommendations that its bad practice to have them enabled. Many customers have reported issues with the event storms that fill their opsDB’s and consume a large amount of space.
  • Port and Process Monitoring –  The new MP is bundled with the baseOS MP for port and process monitoring, these use a Management Pack Template Wizard to enable for specific Windows Server 2016 servers. This enables the monitoring of all of the processes on the servers however because this collects large amounts of data it can cause issues, Microsoft have advised that care is taken when enabling this. Microsoft have advised that customers should test this in a lab environment before deploying to production to ensure no issues occur.
